SUMMARY

Our client seeks a warm, highly experienced, and adaptable career nanny to provide full-time care for multiple young children. The ideal candidate is patient, engaging, resourceful, and confident caring for infants, toddlers, and preschool-age children within an involved family environment.

The family follows Waldorf principles, and the children attend a Waldorf school. The nanny should genuinely enjoy outdoor play, imaginative activities, reading, crafts, and developmentally appropriate learning without relying on screens. A teaching credential or experience with Waldorf or Montessori education is strongly preferred.

Flexibility is essential. The nanny must be willing and able to accompany the family on all domestic trips, including travel to Hawaii, British Columbia, the East Coast, and other destinations. The family travels privately, and some trips may overlap with the nanny’s ordinarily scheduled time off.

The household includes, among others, a House Manager, housekeeper, landscaper and a full-time nanny. The nanny’s primary focus will be childcare, but they should be practical, team-oriented, and willing to assist with errands and other family needs—particularly when the family’s existing nanny is unavailable. The family is conducting a thoughtful search and is not under pressure to hire immediately.

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be TrustLine registered and verified.

  • 10+ years of consistent and recent Nanny experience in a private home setting.

  • Extensive and recent professional nanny experience in private homes, particularly with multiple young children.

  • Strong experience caring for infants, toddlers, and preschool-age children.

  • Excellent references and a demonstrated record of longevity with private families.

  • Teaching credential or educational background strongly preferred.

  • Personal or professional experience with Waldorf education is highly desirable.

  • Waldorf or Montessori training or experience is a significant plus but not required.

  • Strong knowledge of child development, developmental milestones, and age-appropriate activities.

  • Native-level English fluency with excellent verbal communication skills.

  • Experience traveling with private families domestically and internationally.

  • Valid passport and full willingness to accompany the family on all trips.

  • Exceptional judgment, maturity, reliability, and safety awareness.

  • Comfortable working alongside highly involved parents and established household staff.

  • Minimal and discreet social-media presence.

  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

  • Current CPR and First Aid certification.

  • Legally authorized to work in the United States.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

  • Warm, patient, calm, and highly interactive with children.

  • Energetic and genuinely interested in outdoor play, imaginative play, reading, crafts, and hands-on learning.

  • Aligned with Waldorf principles and comfortable supporting the routines and values reinforced by the children’s school.

  • Proactive, capable, resourceful, and willing to help wherever needed.

  • Flexible and able to adapt to changing schedules, busy periods, travel, and the needs of an involved family.

  • Comfortable taking greater responsibility when the family’s existing nanny is unavailable.

  • Organized, dependable, emotionally grounded, and an excellent communicator.

  • Discreet, professional, and respectful of the family’s privacy.

  • Comfortable working in a vegan and vegetarian household where meat and poultry are not permitted.

  • Must be local to San Diego and possess strong knowledge of the area, including local schools, activities, parks, resources, and family-friendly destinations.

WORK SCHEDULE

This is a full-time position with a regular Monday-through-Friday schedule. Saturday availability is expected on a flexible, as-needed basis rather than as a fixed weekly requirement. Depending on the evolving needs of the principals, the position may also transition to a rotational schedule, with several consecutive days on followed by several days off. The exact structure remains open and will be determined as the family’s needs become clearer.

The schedule may vary according to the children’s activities, the family’s travel plans, and changing household needs. The nanny must be able to travel with the family on all domestic and international trips, including trips that occasionally fall during otherwise scheduled time off. Flexibility regarding hours, days, scheduling structure, and travel is a central requirement of the position.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide attentive, developmentally appropriate care for multiple young children.

  • Maintain safe, nurturing, and consistent routines appropriate to each child’s age and developmental stage.

  • Plan engaging activities centered on outdoor play, imaginative play, reading, crafts, and hands-on learning.

  • Support the family’s Waldorf-based approach and reinforce the routines and values established by the children’s school.

  • Avoid reliance on screens and encourage creative, social, and active forms of play.

  • Travel with the family on all domestic and international trips and provide full childcare support throughout.

  • Prepare light lunches or simple meals for the children when needed; regular family cooking is not required.

  • Assist with child-related errands and occasional general family errands.

  • Help maintain the children’s rooms, play areas, clothing, belongings, and supplies.

  • Coordinate closely with the parents, the family’s existing nanny, and other household staff.

  • Step in wherever needed during busy periods and assume additional responsibility when the existing nanny is unavailable.

  • Remain flexible as schedules, priorities, and travel requirements evolve.

  • Respect the household’s dietary practices: the client is vegan, the remainder of the family is vegetarian, and no meat or poultry may be brought into or prepared in the home. A pescatarian candidate can be accommodated.

  • Maintain complete confidentiality and professional discretion at all times.
